Saturday evening we were invited to the Troop 370 Blue and Gold Banquet. As you may know, scouting is celebrating their 100th Anniversary this year. In fact, if you watched the opening ceremonies for the Nascar Race on Sunday, the anniversary was mentioned. We are proud of two of our grandsons who are involved in scouting along with their parents who are leaders. We had a delicious meal served family style with the two scout grandsons as "runners" bringing side dishes and DESSERTS. The troop furnished chicken strips and mashed potatoes/gravy while the families brought the other dishes. Wow those scout families do know how to cook (or shop) just right. I believe the most popular dish was pasta salad, each made a slightly different way. This picture is of the scouts and leaders who were in attendance. You will notice a large container on the left side, it has 50 Red Oak trees for the scouts to plant where they desire. Their ancestors can see the trees 100 years from now when the 200th Anniversary of Scouting is celebrated.
The cakes were for a Cake Auction, the proceeds being used to defray the cost of the furnished food and drinks.
Little sister, GraceAnne brought her Easy Bake Oven cake "The Leaning Tower of Pisa". She just had to participate, after all she is the Princess. Papi bought her cake and she even let us take it home. I thought for just a second that she was going to protest. But she didn't, and even gave us hugs and kisses before we left. Oh, when she gave the cake to Papi it was almost the "Falling on the Floor Tower of Pisa". I've not seen him move that fast in a few days.
Keaton made the "Shaun White Half-Pipe" Cake. It was angle food with fluffy frosting. You might notice the "full cheek", it"s a brownie and he didn't even offer any to the rest of us. LOL Keaton was a part of a really cute skit.
Joshua made the "Chess" cake. It was on a real chess board with real chessmen. "Warning, DO NOT EAT THE DECORATIONS". Joshua did a nice job reading a part for the Opening Ceremony.Riley hid his face when Grammy tried to take his picture, so I'm afraid he isn't included in the photos. We all had a great time and plenty of money was raised for the banquet. There were 20 cakes with the highest bid being $50. We even had a REAL auctioneer.
